I wanted to take a moment to talk about something near and dear to me. Something that is vitally important if you like to have great, beautiful, perfectly lit portraits.
What is it?
It's the first hour after sunrise, or the last hour before sunset.
Also known as magic hour. And it really is magic.
The light is warm, soft, adds dimension, and well, it's just plain old magical! It's more flattering to people's skin and bodies, doesn't add harsh shadows, and can even allow people to look in the direction of the sun without squinting. We won't lose details in highlights that are too bright or shadows that are too dark. It adds quality, depth, and of course that warm, golden glow.
And of course, who wouldn't want a stunning sunrise or sunset in their portraits?
